I was writing something and I was constrained by the number of words I could use in each section of the document. I hunted around a bit in Pages trying to find the word count feature but got frustrated easily so off to Google. It turned up this "free and fast online word counting tool." Not much more explanation is needed. Copy the section you want it to count, paste it in and press the button. Boom. Numbers.
Update: I'm an idiot, by the way. To get the word count in Pages just look on the bottom of the document. If you want a particular section just highlight that section and it gives you a nice fraction. But let's say it didn't do that...
Update: I'm sure these are a dime a dozen but here's one that counts words and characters too.
You can also find character count in Pages in the Inspector > Document tab > Info tab.
